more than just a name

My cousin Ryan asked me the significance of the name “Beyond Friendship Gate.”

Friendship Gate stands at the corner of 7th & H Street in Chinatown. We live just beyond Friendship Gate at the corner of 6th & H. I actually grew up in a small community called Friendship, which is part of Quaker Gap or Germanton, NC. So I thought the name was particularly fitting.

You can learn more about the history of the gate, which is the world’s largest Chinese archway. When you take the 7th & H exit from the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro, look up to your left. You can see the gate as you ride up the escalator. The brightly-colored design is quite inspiring.
