Tightrope: No. 29 of 40 Forts

After All Falls Down, I was pretty much exhausted. Lucy still wasn’t sleeping. I was upset. And I was overwhelmed by the forts. I decided that they were stupid. I was spending all of my time creating them at the sacrifice of all my free time. I stopped exercising. I stopped watching TV. I had a huge pile of library books I desperately wanted to read. Plus, with the last two forts, they were deeply personal. And way more exposed than even I wanted to be.

The slightest nudge sent her tumbling.

The slightest nudge sent her tumbling.

Point blank, it made me realize that I was keeping things in check. But barely.

The slightest nudge sent her tumbling.

We were all on edge. Henry had a big trip to London coming up. My parents were visiting. And well, Lucy just bottomed out as far as sleep goes.

Since this point, I will say that things have drastically improved. Especially sleep-wise. And, as we all know, I have finished my forts. I can just hang out in the evenings.

And I have finally started following the sage wisdom of sleep when the baby sleeps. I even had two naps yesterday. It was great. A little extra sleep is all I need to get those projects rolling. I have a whole new list of things on my plate now, making it very tempting to skip the fort stories. But we are three-forths of the way there. Can you believe it.

This paper sculpture, roughly the size of a coffee cup, is one of forty forts I created during Lent 2010 as a creative exercise and spiritual exploration.
