Strawberry Season Starts Early
While we were in NC, Lucy and Jed met up at Mabe’s Berry Farm to pick a few strawberries.
It was the first day the strawberries were picked and there lots of berries on the back of the trailer. We soon learned that we couldn’t pick our own berries yet, but we could sit on the tractor.
Note Lucy’s “posser” (pocketbook/purse) from Grams’ bedside table.
Jed gave the tractor ride a double thumbs up. I shared the story of how I took out half of our boxwood while mowing the yard with a tractor. Sadly, it is still quite smaller twenty-plus years later.
Lucy insisted on getting her own shot at the wheel.
The berries were across the street from the barn.
Based on my previous experience of picking strawberries on Papa’s farm, I thought we were in for a tremendously muddy experience. In Stokes County, that translates into red clay that stains! But not the case. I think Lucy’s Tretorns would have been safe.
But the kids picked their one berry and headed back to pick out their own bucket.
Lucy knew exactly what to do with all of those strawberries.
Yum! So delicious!
