press your luck
Press Your Luck was one of my all-time favorite game shows. I would watch it every day in the summers while I stayed with Memaw. Later the show served as inspiration for some lame made-up PE activity in middle school. We had to spend the hour doing something. So why not stand around the hoop and cheer no whammies while we took turns shooting the ball?
Well, seventeen years to the day before my wedding stands as one of the most memorable days in PYL history. Michael Larson, an unemployed ice cream truck driver from Ohio, figured out the pattern and won over $100,000 on the show. In 1984, that was a remarkable amount of money. Read the amazing story on Game Show Central.
Henry loves sharing this story and was disappointed that Netflix does not carry “Big Bucks: The Press Your Luck Scandal,” a documentary created by the Game Show Network. If you know where we can watch it, please leave a comment below.
