toy abacus, accounting paper, colored pencil, glue

Since the late Nineties, I have kept a journal. As part of my daily writing, I make a list of ten things for which I am thankful. The items range from resolutions to large problems to mundane aspects of everyday life. Using the same concept, I created loose paper beads out of old accounting paper. I wrote something on each of the strips, except for the numbered sheets. Those beads remind reference finding an empty or blank fortune in a Chinese cookie and represent the countless things I am thankful for.

This piece is one of six in a series celebrating Advent called “In A Perfect World” for Calvary Baptist Church in Washington, DC. The word for this piece is Gratitude.
