Monday’s obsession: hedgehogs
On Monday, I was searching for ideas for an illustration of tired eyes when I ran across this little guy: Numo.
Talk about a cutie… Anyone who clicks on the site, will quickly realize that Numo didn’t last very long. I spent the evening reading through the entire blog about this little African Pygmy. Granted it’s not a very long blog, so I didn’t spend too much time on it. But I did move on to searching hedgehogs on YouTube. That got a little out of control.
First there was Uni,
a grumpy hedgehog,
and these almost scary looking baby hedgehogs…
Watching the videos, I realized that my favorite Beatrix Potter character was Ms. Tiggy-Winkle. I had a small stuffed animal version of her as a child. I am not sure if her apron and white cap in tact. Read The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, by Beatrix Potter online.
I also fell in love with this teeny tortoise while we were in Florida for the holidays. I even named him Grover. He was only $95 and the size of a slider from Matchbox. Maybe there was a good reason we did not go back to the store after picking up a few staples from Staples.
(Grover wasn’t this small or I would definitely have to have him.)
In retrospect, I began to wonder why do I want pets who have an inherent mechanism to retreat inside their shell or under the protection of their spiky quills. Hmmm…. I have no idea. Henry pointed out that maybe it’s because they are small.

I’m not the only one dreaming about hedgehogs.
