Happy Grandparents’ Day
Henry’s parents came to the new house for the first time last week. The Buelos loved relaxing at the kitchen table or in the sun room, but it’s impossible to keep them out of a yard if there’s work to be done. Other than playing with Lucy, they are happiest digging up weeds and clearing leaves. On the first go-round alone, the three of us filled 10 bags and two branch bins. One of the many things I love about my father-in-law is that we’re on the exact same page as to how we like the yard to look. He even liked my manual push-mower. (I’m not sure how Henry completely missed on a green thumb since he had one on either side.)
I was so inspired that I ran out to Lowe’s to buy some more yardwork tools, including a weeding bench. Unfortunately everyone was too sore to do any more weeding so we just used it for seating.
My family came over for lunch on Sunday. It seems like such a long time ago that everyone was together. We all had such a great time, and it really made our house feel like a home. But the highlight of the day was probably Lucy getting her flamenco dress present from Alex and Jennifer, who bought it for her in Spain. She understood immediately that it was a dancing dress. Maybe the tassels tipped her off.
She took her showmanship to the next level once she put on Dad’s hat.
And thanks to my facebook feed, we learned later in the day that it was actually Grandparents’ Day! What a great coincidence, and what a great way to spend Lucy’s new favorite holiday.
