Disaster Averted {or Luck, Pure Luck}

What’s wrong with this picture? Other than the dust and the additional items that have moved up the bookshelf out of Lucy’s reach.

Look a little closer.

That’s right. Holy Guacamole.

I first spotted the singe mark when hanging up the phone today, which is located on the shelf below the dictionary. I thought, Hmmm, that’s odd. Why is there mold growing on the dictionary?

Then I instantly realized that the magnifying glass that I bought for Henry a couple of Christmases ago almost burned our house down. Incredible.

Presumably not once, but twice. Well, I don’t know how long it has been since I moved the magnifying glass there. It is now on the kitchen counter awaiting a new home.

As a child, I had an irrational fear of my house burning down after we drove by a house engulfed in flames by a grease fire. I was on my way to pick up Sarah for playschool. No one was injured. Just the house. The remains were eventually covered in kudzo. Now there is nothing on the lot.

Maybe the dictionary will soon discover a new life as a piece of book art.

Now how do I test the fire extinguisher? Do we even have one? Hmmm… Let me add that to my list.
