We are big fans of Abe around here thanks to the Nationals. We are so busy that I almost forgot the highlight of our day! I had a meeting at New York Avenue Presbyterian Church this morning regarding our progress on the playground.
After the meeting, Terry pointed out a few highlights from Abe’s era, including a visit into Lincoln’s Chapel. I call it that because gold letters are inscribed on the door frame above a red leather door.
We sat in Abe’s pew! I wonder if they created this name plate from one of Abe’s actual signatures in their records. They do have an interesting piece of liturgical art in the lobby that also includes names as part of the pattern.
Note his is different from the rest. They rebuilt the sanctuary in the fifties, which is why their sanctuary is in much better shape than ours. But Calvary is beautiful despite some crumbling plaster.
The hitching post still stands outside the church. Despite the scratched up gold plate, the iron work is quite beautiful. I should pay more attention to the historical walking tour signs around town.
